New Jewish Neighbourhood on Remains of Palestinian Village

The Jerusalem Municipality has approved construction of 268 housing units, one hotel and a number of community institutions on the site of the ancient Palestinian village of Lifta.

Before 1948, more than 3,000 Palestinians lived in Lifta, but the village was depopulated during the 1948 war and partially destroyed.

Dimitri Diliani, a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council and a resident of Jerusalem, notes that the decision to build a Jewish neighborhood on the remains of the Lifta village reflects the racist ideology of the state of Israel and erases the Palestinian national heritage.
