Zochrot action alert update:
The Israeli Land Authority responded to the court order on the petition against the destruction of Lifta and it's clear from the response that Palestinian refugee rights are not recognized:
It is argued in the response that some of the petitioners were born in Lifta. Beyond this meaningless argument, there was no evidence to its implication about them having any rights to the land of the village, that were marketed at a tender to sell the land to investors.
The petitioners argue that it is inappropriate to approve construction in the village of Lifta, as one day the land would restitute to "its original owners".
The response also stated that with all due respect, the Lifta petitioners claim essentially seeks to prevent the State on a decision to act on its lands in accordance with its authority, which are baseless and contrary to the explicit authority of state law. Therefore this argument should be rejected immediately.
